I don’t care what the proper definition of a word is. That doesn’t matter. Let me break down why using logic.
Words are used to communicate ideas between humans (provided they speak the same language)
In order to correctly use a word, the word must convey the intended idea.
In order to correctly convey the idea of a word, all parties involved in the communication must leave the...

On The Bro'd: 50 - Who Do You Play For? →
onthebrod:
The drivers had switched up front; the less-drunk brother was gunning the RV to the limit. The road changed too: humpy in the middle, with soft shoulders and a ditch on both sides about four feet deep, so that the RV bounced from once side of the road to other—miraculously only when there were no…

They always say that Albert Einstein was a genius. Then how come when anyone ever calls you that, it’s an insult? ‘You don’t know where you parked the car? Good job, Einstein.’ I don’t think we’re honoring that man properly by using his name in...
Been watching that Bob Dylan show on the tele.
Suddenly I turned around and she was standin’ there With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair. She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns. “Come in,” she said, “I’ll give you shelter from the storm.”
Day 30 - Your favorite book of all time
Well, shit.
I’d say Infinite Jest, but I’ve already talked about that. Savage Detectives and 2666 are up there too. I’m indebted to Stephen King, specifically IT. I like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. I adore Fyodor Dostoevsky, though I’ve only read Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov. There’s a place in my heart for Poe, and I think that The Count...

So tell me something: This isn’t really a transcript of the interview, is it?
No.
It’s not much like the actual interview at all, is it?
Not that much, no.
This is a device, this interview style. Manufactured and fake.
It is.

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius

And in it Dave Eggers imparts an anecdote about how he wanted to get on the Real World San Francisco. He didn’t get on, but one of the guys who did was a cartoonist who applied to work for Eggers’s lit mag. He got on the episode, for all of 3 seconds, so he writes. This morning, I looked up that clip (it seems like all of the real world is online now) and it was not in episode 2 like...
Day 29 - A book everyone hated but you liked
Well, I guess it’s Harry Potter time.
It seems like general consensus is that this book is bad, and that this is primarily attributed to the epilogue. Even mention the word epilogue among a group of people of a certain age and you’ll be met with groans and such responses as, “ugh, ruined the whole series for me,” or, “My friend told me it was bad, so I didn’t...

There’s no shame in crying over that episode, bb. It makes me cry every single time. The one about his brother makes me tear up as well. NO SHAME.

O, what magical realms as this do the great ship Stumble drive us hence
I thought of this idea last night
So, it was this quasi postmodern story about this disfigured kid who had to wear masks to cover his features. Like, his whole life, or just about. People become used to these masks, and become to know him for these masks. He too, even, begins to self-identify with his masked appearance, the disfigurement diminishing to a whisper in the back of his head.
Now, this is the kind of disfigurement...
Why do you want to be on The Real World?Because I want everyone to witness my youth. Why?Isn’t it gorgeous. Who’s gorgeous? Not like that. No, I just mean, that it’s in bloom. That’s what you’re all about, right? the showing of raw fruit, correct? Wheter that’s in videos or on spring break, whatever, the amplifying of youth, the editing and volume magnifying...
Day 28 - Favorite title
Let me peruse my shelves a craft a list of my favorite titles, ay?
Requiem for a Dream - Hubert Selby Jr.
I like this one because it says everything right in the title, but It’s not obvious. Not everyone knows what a requiem is, but it is a death mass in catholicism. This book is about the failure of the American Dream, and the title conveys that in, what I feel, is a poetic manner

Day 27 - The most surprising plot twist or ending
I won’t tell you what the twist is, but left me all “whaaaaaaaat?”
I came to you 'cause they say you have grit.

This remake is mind blowing.
Saw this tonight and Black Swan two days ago. Will probably see this again this week, and, hopefully, I’ll find someone (and someplace) to see the Tempest with me, all before I go back to school.
Day 26 - A book that changed your opinion about...
I was never one for short writing and poetry. It jsut wasn’t my thing. I always preferred prose, and long prose at that. Short pieces, fiction or nonfiction, mostly bore me. Reading a 300 page and up novel or extended essay hold my attention, and, generally, anything shorter just doesn’t have enough substance. Then I read two books:
These two books gave me a great appreciation for...
